I’m not a patient person, naturally.
But, in executing the vision for Rebel Base Media, a vision that includes several separate businesses working together to provide a solid, reliable and forward-thinking eco-system of tools and platforms for podcasters, I’ve learned that sometimes you have to go loud and sometimes, you have to keep a few things close to your chest – but most of all, I have learned the virtue of patience.
In particular, I’ve learned the value in building the right team and taking plenty of time to make sure that each person that Rebel Base Media works with is the right fit for the brand and the product line within which they work.
One of the other lessons that I think most founders learn is to become cognizant of exactly what gaps the team has and exactly what gaps they have as a founder – learning to understand your own personality as a founder is vital to the success of your business.
That’s why last year we announced that we’d put together a small board of advisors for our Captivate platform that included three outstanding additions to the business:
James Cridland (Creator, Podnews)
A veteran of the radio industry since 1989 and involved with podcasting since January 2005, James is Editor of podnews.net, a daily podcast newsletter. Based in Brisbane, Australia, James has worked with broadcasters and podcasters across the world and is a speaker, writer and consultant.
Laura Roeder (Founder, MeetEdgar)
Laura is the founder of MeetEdgar, a social media application that provides an effective way of scheduling, and organizing content to automate publishing. She’s been a featured speaker at South by Southwest and the White House and writes about independent entrepreneurship for Forbes, Inc., and Fast Company.
Evo Terra (CEO, SimplerMedia)
Evo has been podcasting since October 2004. He’s the author of Podcasting for Dummies, Expert Practices for Dummies, and is the CEO of Simpler Media, a strategic podcasting agency. He also hosts Podcast Pontifications, a short-form daily podcast committed to advancing podcasting.
I finished off the original announcement post with a little tease, as I’m often wont to do:
We aren’t done. Heck, we’ve only just gotten started. We intend on more appointments – the right people at the right time, and our focus remains on helping podcasters to grow and flourish on their own terms.
And today, hot off the heels of our new team member announcements, I’m delighted to be able to announce that we have been carefully working with some other exceptional podcast industry talents to complement James, Laura and Evo.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome to the Captivate advisory board Chris Ducker, Jordan Harbinger and Daniel J. Lewis!
And, I’m very, very excited to announce that Chris, James and Jordan have become a part of the advisory board for our Poductivity business along with the outstanding Kathy Doyle, of Macmillan Podcasts.
Chris Ducker (Serial entrepreneur & founder, Youpreneur)
Chris is a serial entrepreneur, author and 10-year podcaster, hosting Youpreneur FM from his home in the United Kingdom. A proud Brit, Chris is known for his “hands-on” approach to business and open attitude to new innovations.
Kathy Doyle (Vice President of Macmillan author podcasts & QDT digital & podcast network)
Kathy is Vice President of Macmillan author podcasts & the QDT digital & podcast network, providing actionable advice & quality content to millions of fans around the world from her base in New York City.
Daniel J. Lewis (Podcast industry expert, award-winning podcaster)
As a world-renowned podcasting expert, Daniel J. Lewis is the authority behind The Audacity to Podcast and the creator of several innovative podcasting tools that includes My Podcast Reviews. Known for his deep-dive approach and conscientious additions to the industry, Daniel is a respected voice in the podcasting world.
Jordan Harbinger (Host of The Jordan Harbinger Show)
Apple’s podcast pick in 2018, Jordan is a podcaster known for his skills as an interviewer and his willingness to push the boundaries of podcasting as a medium. With a keen eye for innovation in the industry, Jordan continues to exceed the expectations of what can be achieved as an independent creator.
Products are what we do, the best people are how we do it. Thank you to our advisors, our team and everyone who has supported Rebel Base Media over the last 14 months as we embarked upon these new adventures.
It means a lot.
